Nicholas Hughes’ death

“The son of the poets Ted Hughes and Sylvia Plath has taken his own life, 46 years after his mother gassed herself while he slept.

Nicholas Hughes hanged himself at his home in Alaska after battling against depression for some time, his sister Frieda said yesterday.”

Read Ben Hoyle’s article in The Times.

Dermot Cole’s thoughtful post about Nicholas Hughes is worth reading.

Read Edward Byrne’s post at One Poet’s Notes.

Depression is a very misunderstood illness. People misuse the term, think it means sad. It means unendurable pain. God love him.

I liked reading Dermot cole’s post; it told you so much more aobut him than that he was Sylvia Plath’s son and he killed himself…

    Thanks for the links, Michelle.

On 26 March, Balaji Ravichandran writes in The Guardian:

” … I strongly believe that the current climate of fear of all forms of melancholy and depression keeps people from talking about their melancholy not just in public but also, more importantly, to their doctors.”
